What’s the deal with Omega-3 and Omega-6 for cats?

How to incorporate essential fatty acids into your cat’s diet

Let's start with the basics; cats need nutrients like omega-3 and omega-6 essential fatty acids (EFAs) to maintain optimal health. Omega-3s help regulate inflammation and support healthy brain function, while omega-6s help care for their skin and coat. Cats can't produce EFAs on their own, so they need to get them through their food. That's where Made by Nacho comes in.

Fish is an excellent source of EFAs, and we include it in tons of recipes throughout our menu. However, not all sources of omega-3 and 6 are created equally. Our fish-friendly recipes include sustainably sourced seafood like salmon, cod, whitefish, and whole herring.

We love omega-3s and 6s because they help improve cats' brain function, cognitive ability, memory retention, and learning capacity. Omega-3s have anti-inflammatory properties that can alleviate inflammation in the body —super beneficial for cats with inflammatory conditions like arthritis or allergies. In addition, omega-3s have been shown to positively affect heart health by helping to reduce the risk of heart disease.

Omega-6 fatty acids promote shiny, lustrous coats (like Nacho's!), reduce itching and scratching, and support skin and coat health.

As with any change in diet, it's essential to introduce new foods gradually to ensure your cat's digestive system can adjust. Ask your vet if you're unsure about the best diet for your little BFF.
